Best Bluetooth Speakers in 2011

Another year, and another range of speakers released by a slew of manufacturers. But there's a difference this year: namely, the extensive line up of bluetooth speakers. While true audiophiles will probably shriek in horror at the mere mention of wireless speakers (wires, after all, do deliver better performance, even if you can't spot it), for most consumers, these wireless speakers - particularly bluetooth speakers - are more than good enough to replace the old, cumbersome, wired lot. Add to that the ubiquity of iPhones and iPod Touches, and you can see the appeal in bluetooth speakers: they are easy to use, affordable, compact, and deliver a decent overall performance without any of the nasty bits (read: wires, hefty power bricks, etc.).

So, which are the best Bluetoot speakers for 2011?

If I had to pick out one set of speakers that stand out for their versitility, I would probably choose the Creative D100 and its elder sibling, the D200. These two speakers do everything right for me: deliver a good performance, aren't too expensive (I say this after burning thousands of dollars on various speaker sets), and look good. But for the sake of this article, I will list out the four best Bluetooth speakers in 2011:

Best Bluetooth Speakers in 2011

1. Creative D100 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

As I've mentioned above, this speaker set does a lot of things right: good looks (it comes in five different colors, though I prefer the default black), delivers a more than adequate performance, is small and easy to carry, works on AA batteries, and won't burn a hole in your wallet.

But it isn't a perfect speaker. Not by a long stretch (for that, I would probably look at Klipsch or Bose). The low end lacks a bit of punch, and if you turn up the volume, there is distortion. I assume, however, that you won't be using the Creative D100 to power your next house party. For every other purpose, this is a great, dependable speaker.

Pros: compact design, affordable, aesthetically pleasing, strong overall performance.

Cons: Bass sounds a bit weak; distortions at high volume

2. Monster ClarityHD Precision Micro Bluetooth Speaker

With this speaker, there was love at first sight. How can you not fall for this tiny package bursting with features and power? It is no bigger than an iPhone in length, and yet, can set the house on fire with its sound. I've seen speakers that weight 10 lbs that don't perform as good.

Compact design notwithstanding, the Monster ClarityHD is a very well rounded speaker that works seamlessly with any Bluetooth device. Your iPhone or iPodTouch will recognize it instantly and stream all music through it. The audio quality is amazing for such a small speaker - clear, strong mid and high tones, little distortion, even at high volumes. If you listen to music largely through your smartphone (Android/iPhone/Blackberry) or iPod Touch, this speaker is the perfect choice.

Pros: Extremely compact design, clear, strong playback, decent range.

Cons: As with all small speakers, lacks strong low tones. Volume output is somewhat low.

3. Altec Lansing inMotion Soundblade Bluetooth Speaker

Finally, a speaker that dispels the myth that Bluetooth speakers are only good for casual users. It costs a pretty penny, but turn it on, and you will get crystal clear sound with amazing bass (thanks to SRS TruBass technology) that will blow your socks off. It looks classy, is just an inch thick, and even includes an in-built microphone to act as a speakerphone.

Being a modern Bluetooth device, the Altec Lansing inMotion is a breeze to setup. You can go from opening the package to streaming music through your iPhone in as little as 60 seconds. The performance is, quite frankly, mindblowing. It delivers sound that can compete with a 0 Bose system, and for all practical purposes, it is more than adequate for some heavy use, both in the house and beyond.

The only downside that I can think of (which has made me rank it here at no.3) is the price. At 9.99, it costs as much as a new Netbook computer. But if you care about quality, you will love the Altec Lansing Soundblade.

Pros: Excellent audio quality, aesthetically pleasing, just an inch thick, strong bass and clear high tones. Probably the best Bluetooth speaker around.

Cons: Expensive

4. SuperTooth Disco Bluetooth Speaker

It looks like a brick, is almost a footlong, and doesn't quite have the pedigree of an Altec Lansing behind it. But turn it on, and the SuperTooth Disco can give even a 0 Klipsch speaker a run for its money. The audio is surprisingly clear with strong volume output. Pairing it with a Bluetooth device is a matter of seconds, and it has a great Bluetooth range to boot.

On the downside, the large size makes it a bit difficult to carry around. While the Monster ClarityHD can be dropped into a handbag, the SuperTooth Disco does lack a bit of teeth in the portability department. But if you want to use it primarily indoors, you will be very happy with the performance.

Pros: Strong performance, good Bluetooth range

Cons: Big and unwieldy design

Bluetooth Headphones Review: Motorola S9 Bluetooth Active Headphone

The earlier generations of Bluetooth headphones were meant for one kind of active users--those on the go, career professionals who were constantly bustling around doing business. With the Motorola S9 Bluetooth Active Headphone, the word active expanded to include the physically active and the sports-active. Here's how and why.

The popularity of Bluetooth headphones started to rise when their manufacturers enabled consumers to use wireless headsets in conjunction with mobile phones via Bluetooth technology. When mobile phone manufacturers began pushing for music-enabled cell phones, plus with the starting ubiquity of the multimedia players (particularly MP3 players and the iPod), the Bluetooth headset industry also started to adapt. The Motorola S9 Bluetooth Active Headphone is one such product, and quite a feature-filled one, too.

It is ideal for the sportsy and active lifestyle, for two main reasons: it is only 5.1 ounces and it is wireless. The Motorola S9's sleek and lightweight design provides for comfortable binaural (i.e., having two earpieces, one for each ear) headphones conveniently shaped into a behind-the-head set. Plus, it is specifically made to be sweat- and water-resistant, thus making it the perfect choice for runners, joggers, sprinters, gym-goers, and other sports enthusiasts.

Bluetooth Headphones Review: Motorola S9 Bluetooth Active Headphone

The earbuds and the shape of the slim connecting band not only gives it a stylish look but also provides for a design that is both less-distracting and less-conspicuous. The ear hooks are easy to slip on or off. With this kind of material and design, the Motorola S9 is surely a device you won't mind wearing for long periods, way even beyond its normal play time (about 6 hours), talk time (about 7 hours), or idle time (about 150 hours).

Despite its very slim yet attractive looks, the solid stereo sound quality of the Motorola S9 doesn't give an inch to low quality, regardless of the audio type or format. Though, several users have noted that the audio quality isn't exactly for the exquisite tastes of seasoned audiophiles, the S9's sound quality suffices for general usage. Voice calls are as clear and clean as its music, even in usage scenarios that necessitate environmental noise such as wind. The volume of either music or voice audio remains even and well-praised by most users. It will allow you uninterrupted music listening with its automatic music pausing features when a voice call comes in. The music eventually resumes when the call is terminated. It pairs quite easily and quickly with many compatible Bluetooth-powered devices.

In sum, as a one-of-its-kind slim and fashionable headset, the Motorola S9 Bluetooth Active Headphone can be considered ahead of the pack of Bluetooth headphones designed for the sports-minded individual.

Noise Canceling Bluetooth Headset Review

Now that technology has made cell phones more popular than watches and handbags, you can't go much of anywhere without seeing someone engaged in conversation with their hand plastered to their ear. This has become a bit of a problem since it ties up on of your hands and distracts you (while driving). That's probably why the most popular accessory since the phone charger itself is now the "bluetooth headset".

What Is a Bluetooth Headset?

Nearly all modern cell phones have "bluetooth" capatibility. Mobile phones equipped with bluetooth have the ability to create a "personal area network" or PAN. A PAN is a short-range radio frequency meant to connect small devices like cell phones, laptops, PC's, digital cameras, printers, video game consoles, etc. So a bluetooth headset is just a small earpiece with a microphone that connects to your cell phone via this short range wireless frequency on your personal area network. Now you know why you see so many people walking around talking to themselves that look like they're from the cast of Star Trek because of the futuristic device attached to their head.

Noise Canceling Bluetooth Headset Review

What Makes a Good Bluetooth Headset?

A good bluetooth headset is comfortable and made out of quality materials that will last a long time. It has as decent battery life, and hopefully the audio quality doesn't sound like a semi driving through a tunnel. There are two sides to quality audio and the first is the earpiece. What you hear while talking on the phone through the bluetooth headset is in part determined by the quality of that speaker in the earpiece itself. A very low quality sub- earpiece you bought in a bargain store or flea market is likely to have very tinny audio due to the speaker quality. Without some decent bass and mid-range response you're likely to have problems listening for any extended period of time. The largest factor of quality however lies in the microphone. It's garbage in - garbage out they say, and you'll only hear quality audio if that's what the microphone picks up. The same for the person you've called, the audio they receive on their end is only as good as what your microphone picks up. Often, that quality is affected by your physical location. If you are in a car with an open window, in a subway station, or at a restaurant - the microphone is likely to pickup much more than your voice. In contrast, if it's a nice sunny day at a quiet park or if you're inside on your sofa the headset will likely have much better audio.

What is Noise Cancelling Technology?

Noise Cancelling Technology is where a headset attempts to differentiate between your voice and background noise. It then separates the two to the best of it's ability, canceling out the noise and transferring along only your voice to make the audio quality cleaner. Of course this works with varying degrees of success from poor to stellar. Once again the quality of the noise canceling bluetooth headset (and price paid) are probably pretty good indicators of the audio quality produced. Noise cancelling in bluetooth headsets is also called "Digital Signal Processing" or DSP. Headsets with better noise canceling usually have more than one microphone (two or more) to be able to separate the noise better.

What are the Best Noise Canceling Bluetooth Headsets?

There are a handful that are simply exceptional and really stand out from the crowd you should take note of. I'll tell you what makes each one unique.

The Eliph Jawbone
The Jawbone has been getting absolutely rave reviews since it was first shown at CES early 2008. The Wall Street Journal, c|Net, engadget, Financial Times, and Macworld all give it stellar reviews. On c|Net the user reviews are a bit lower than what the editor's gave it, but all in all they are still above average. It uses "military grade" noise canceling technology. You can usually find it new for -100.

The Jabra BT800

There are online reviews of the Jabra BT800 going back as far as 2005, which means this headset has been out awhile. Jabra is the world's largest maker or bluetooth headsets, largely because of their lower pricepoint compared to others on the market. The thing that makes the BT800 popular to this day is what sets it apart - the digital display for caller ID. This is a feature not found in nearly any other bluetooth headset. The DSP in this headset boasts both noise cancelling and echo cancelling. Admittedly since this unit has been out a few years, newer units like the Jawbone will have better DSP, but then again you can get the Jabra BT800 under -50 now.

The Blueant Z9

The Blueant Z9 bluetooth headset came on the market in 2007 and retails for about 0. It claims to have advanced noice cancellation that "preserves the natural voice". They call this their "Voice Isolation Technology". In addition this unit has 2 modes for noise cancellation, both standard and "Max". I guess you could be at the market or in a dog kennel and having the options for extreme circumstance can't be all that bad. It's highly rated by most users at tech sites, in fact more highly rated that all the Motorola bluetooth headsets we viewed.

The Jabra 8040

The Jabra 8040 is brand new for 2008 and it has some new features as well that make it stand out. It has MultiPoint technology, which gives it the ability to connect to two different devices at the same time (very handy!). It also seems to be one of the only "mono" headsets on the market with A2DP technology for streaming music wirelessly. You usually only see A2DP in full headphones or speakers. It is listed as having intelligent volume settings, and active noise reduction, but also has "Acoustic Shock Protection" which supposedly protects your ear from sudden spikes in volume. For all these features this Jabra model seems to be a bargain compared to some of the high priced models at it's modest Things to remember

If you're in the market for a new bluetooth headset try to get the highest bang for your buck. Spending a little more might result in better audio quality or a more comfortable earpiece. Buying a headset with better DSP or noise cancelling will results in better conversations and more effective use with your cell phone. Shop around and find the best price, and your new noise canceling bluetooth headset may just become your top new must-have gadget and mobile accessory!

How to Connect Your iPad With a Bluetooth Headset

Your iPad is configured to utilize a wireless technology called Bluetooth, which enables you to make wireless connections to other Bluetooth compatible devices. Most laptop computers come with Bluetooth built in to the system as well as most cell phones. The Bluetooth device allows your iPad to connect with any Bluetooth compatible device such as keyboard or mouse, cell phone, digital camera, printer, headset etc. Bluetooth technology is for short range use therefore 33 feet is the maximum distance two Bluetooth devices should be apart from each other.

Configuring and connecting any two Bluetooth devices is very simple and can be broken into two distinct phases: Discoverable and Pairing.

Bluetooth devices only broadcast their availability when you want them to. This is called making your device "discoverable". For privacy and functionality, many Bluetooth devices need to be paired with another device before the connection is established. "Pairing" or "to pair" or "paired" is simply the technical language on making a permanent connection between two Bluetooth devices. This is useful because once two devices are paired; you never have to configure the devices again. Just turn them on and two devices will automatically connect to each other even in a room full of other Bluetooth devices. All Bluetooth devices can be "un-paired," meaning you can break the connection and pair with another Bluetooth device.

How to Connect Your iPad With a Bluetooth Headset

To Pair a device, you must first make it discoverable, connect to the device of your choosing, and enter a multi-digit (usually four) pass code or PIN. Pairing devices such as your cell phone with your iPad will allow you to choose a unique pass code. For other devices such as Bluetooth headset, the headset comes with a default passkey that you enter in your iPad during the pairing process. (Notes: Even though most headsets default passkey is 0000, your connection will be secure with your iPad.)

How to connect your iPad with a Bluetooth headset

Connecting your iPad with a Bluetooth headset:

1. Turn on your Bluetooth receiver in your iPad. If your iPad already has the Bluetooth receiver on you will see a Bluetooth logo in the status bar next to the battery status icon.
2. Touch "Settings" on the Home screen.
3. Touch "General" in the Settings screen.
4. Touch "Bluetooth" in the General Screen and turn the Bluetooth on.
5. Turn on the Bluetooth headset and make it discoverable. Follow the directions of the manufacture to make your device discoverable. For example, Jawbone headsets require pressing and holding both device buttons till the signal light flashes red and white.
6. Your iPad should now display the name of your Bluetooth headset. Touch the name of the Bluetooth headset. Your iPad should pair with the headset and prompt for the passkey.
7. Enter the headset passkey in the iPad PIN box. (The default key is often 0000 but check the manufacturer instructions)

How to use your Bluetooth headset to listen to music

After you've paired a headset, your iPad should make your headset the "default output audio device." Follow the steps below if this does not happen"

1. Touch "iPod" on the Home Screen to load the iPod app.
2. Once the iPod app loads check to see what icon is at the top left corner of the screen. If you a speaker icon that means the iPad is using your built in speakers as the default output audio device.
3. At the bottom of the screen you will see the status bar. Touch the Bluetooth icon.
4. Touch your paired Bluetooth headset.
5. You should now hear your song playing through the Bluetooth headset instead of the system speakers.

Bluetooth2 How to connect your iPad with a Bluetooth headset

How to Unpair your Bluetooth headset

If you no longer plan to use a headset with your iPad, you can unpair the devices by following these steps:

1. Touch "Settings" on the Home Screen. The Settings screen should pop up.
2. Touch "General". The General screen displays.
3. Touch "Bluetooth". The Bluetooth screen displays.
4. Touch the name of the Bluetooth headset.
5. Touch "Forget this Device". Your iPad unpairs the Bluetooth headset.

Mobile Computing & Bluetooth - The Advantages of Bluetooth Technology

There are many new technologies that are competing to take hold as new wireless technologies start to take the drivers seat in many of the older standards. There are more than one technology that allow a mouse for example, to function without a cord connecting it to your computer. You can use a WiFi connection, you can use Bluetooth or even an infrared signal. So which one is the best? Well, that really depends on you and your own plans for usage.

Some of these technologies are more limited that others, if you are looking for a very long range connection, the WiFi devices seem to perform better and if you need to be able to connect to the PC without a direct live of vision the infrared devices will not perform well because they need to be able to have a straight shot from the device to the receiver. Bluetooth devices sit right in the middle and are good for connectivity from at least 30 feet away and are good around corners or where there is not a straight shot.

This is not the biggest advantage of the Bluetooth technology, the biggest reason to start taking advantage of Bluetooth is that is a highly compatible standardized technology that works with millions of devices. If you have a cell phone, printer, mouse or keyboard that is Bluetooth capable you can connect them to your computer or other mobile devices very simply. If you want to boost security you can put your own password on most devices or simply turn the Bluetooth off to stop others from connecting when you don't want them to. If you do not have a PC that has Bluetooth capability then you can buy an adapter that plugs into a USB slot for about 20 bucks. The price of Bluetooth accessories has really dropped over the past few years and more and more hardware components for PC's and other digital devices are starting to adopt this budding wireless technology that allows for data transfer and audio streaming.

Mobile Computing & Bluetooth - The Advantages of Bluetooth Technology

For many the Bluetooth features on cellular devices are a big selling point and being able to connect to their home stereo, personal computer and portable speakers using Bluetooth is a feature that they do not want to go without. Since the newer Bluetooth 2.0 technology is completely backwards compatible this is another reason many are happy to spend money on Bluetooth devices, because they know that they will be able to use them with any other device they get in many years to come.

Bluetooth Wireless Speaker Range

Bluetooth technology continues to revolutionize the wireless world. Bluetooth products allow you to connect to many different devices. There are many advantages to using bluetooth over infrared wireless such as no longer being required to use line of sight.

Bluetooth wireless speakers use low powered radio signals to communication. Using these radio signals at low power gives a usable range of about thirty three feet or around 10 meters. Most bluetooth devices use the more efficient low power signals, but some are capable of larger output power and can often boost signal range to over three hundred feet or one hundred meters. The intention of bluetooth was not to be a high powered high distance protocol but to create a personal area network. The key goals of a personal area network are to allow the user to share data wireless between many devices that may be in the immediate vicinity. The protocol allows many different devices to be connected up to eight at one time.

The bluetooth standard is here to stay and is robustly constructed for future expansions. The robust protocol allows an open standard that can be adopted by many equipment manufacturers. This allows a wide array of devices to be compatible right out of the box. The need for short range personal area network type communications over a wireless medium is not going away any time soon. As more and more devices come to market supporting bluetooth the cost of the technology itself is driven down as mass production ramps up.

Bluetooth Wireless Speaker Range

The range of bluetooth allows bluetooth wireless speakers to be controlled from almost anywhere in a room. This means the speakers can remain stationed in one place and you can carry the media player device around the room with you, all the time controlling the music coming from your speakers. This is great for parties or entertaining as the sound source device can be passed around allowing anyone to become the DJ while they have control of the device.

The operating frequency of bluetooth devices is two point four gigahertz. This can lead to interference with other devices in your vicinity, but since bluetooth is as lower powered protocol and the data flowing is digital it is rarely an issue. Some devices to be aware of that may operate at two point four gigahertz also are wireless access points, cordless phones, and video game controllers. If you suspect interference between two of your devices trying to utilize the same frequency, test the interference with one of the devices off and vice-versa. If the interference only happens with both devices running you have found the problem.

All in all bluetooth wireless speakers provide a range that is more than sufficient for most users requirements, while not interfering with other devices on the same frequency.

Choosing Between Over-The-Head and On-The-Ear Bluetooth Headphones

To serve many different lifestyles, habits, and preferences, Bluetooth headphones come in many different shapes and sizes. Depending on your intended use for your headphones, you can choose between on-the-ear headsets or over-the-head headsets.

On-the-ear Bluetooth headphones are placed on the ear opening. They can be used by clipping or fitting the earphone buds to the ear opening. These kinds are usually less bulky than the over-the-head headphones. Since these use Bluetooth technology, there are no wires used for connectivity.

These kinds of headphones are typically used by people usually when taking calls on the go. Because people would want to multitask, they take calls while shopping, cooking, walking, doing the dishes, changing diapers, or doing anything else. On-the-ear headphones actually complement the Bluetooth technology that they use. While the Bluetooth technology allows you connectivity even if you are meters away from the source, an on-the-ear headphone allows you to take hands-free calls. It gives your hands freedom to do other things while talking to someone over the phone.

Choosing Between Over-The-Head and On-The-Ear Bluetooth Headphones

You can also multitask while exercising and listening to music with an on-the-ear Bluetooth headset. Music does get you more into your aerobic routines, or simply just to provide you with a fast beat that you can move with. If you are doing some meditation, music from your on-the-ear headphone sets the right mood and atmosphere.

On-the-ear headphones would not complicate your look. If you are in the office, it would look like an ear accessory, unlike over-the-head headphones that band around your head. On-the-ear headphones are almost unnoticeable and are not distracting to look at.

Meanwhile, over-the-head headphones also use Bluetooth, so they also do not require wires. They are placed atop your head and are fastened using a band. The band varies from slim metal bands to wide foam- or rubber-made headphone bands. The sound goes out the part covering your ears like earmuffs. They can be placed in their cradle when not in use and can function as desktop speakers.

If you are more into the quality of the sound, you should opt for the over-the-head headphones. They usually feature sound surround quality audio and noise canceling capability. Over-the-head headsets are typically used mostly by video or audio editors, recording artists, gamers, film watchers, and disc jockeys. You can prefer this if you use it at home or at a recording studio. It is bulky to look at but is very functional and provides a higher sound quality and capacity than an on-the-ear headphone.

Again, your choice of style or design will depend on your intended use for your Bluetooth headphones, so make sure that you are clear beforehand about your purpose before you make any choice.

How to Install a Bluetooth Kit - Do Things the Easy Way

There are two ways Bluetooth car kits can be installed, one is the difficult way, the other is easier (however can still be fairly difficult dependent on vehicle). The problem is, Bluetooth kits are made with ISO connections as standard. ISO is an older industry standard which determines the locations of various wires (which perform different functions) For example, the front left and right speakers, back left and right, power, mute and ignition. If your vehicle is ISO, then the kits will install fairly easily.

The problem is, the ISO standard is now fairly old. More modern vehicles utilise systems such as CAN bus & fibre Optic MOST systems which do not use conventional wires. If this is the case you will either need to splice into the wires (where possible) or use a mute cable, ISO2CAR, Drive&Mute or Audio2Car. They all perform the same task, however each has a slightly different compatibility. For example Audio2Car work particularly well with amplified systems.

The only other difficult task when installing the Bluetooth kit is to route the microphone into position. This routes from the back of the Bluetooth unit. Usually installed behind the car stereo. From here its usually best to route the opposite direction from the driver. Remove the glovebox where ever possible (Different for each vehicle, but usually fairly pain free when the screws are found).

How to Install a Bluetooth Kit - Do Things the Easy Way

Remove the fascia from the A pillar in the vehicle, they usually un-clip, however sometimes they are screwed in, if so you should be able to pull out the airbag clip plate (a little plastic clip showing where the air bag is) a screw is usually found beneath this. There may be a couple more hidden screws to remove before the fascia can be removed. A little pull on the rear-view mirror fascia should allow you to install and route wire through the lining of the roof. (Don't pull too hard as you may pull the mirror off, and they can be a pain to reinstall) a metal coat hanger will do nicely when pushing it through. From here wire down the A pillar, avoid the air bags at all costs and do not tangle the wire around them. And route behind the glove box to the Bluetooth unit.

After this do done double check you have the Power, Ground (when required) & Ignition wires are active. The Ignition is a must to check, the kits will not work with out it. In fact this is the number one cause for people thinking they have a faulty unit. If your harness doesn't have an ignition (not all do) the best point is either the fusebox, or the Cigarette lighter wire. A simple way of testing is by turning the ignition on when the wires are connected. The unit should power up.

Assuming the kit is working tidy up behind the stereo and re connect the dashboard & fascias and position the microphone to exactly where you want it near the mirror (make sure is doesn't obstruct it). Pair your phone using the manufacturers instructions and you will have a fully working Bluetooth car kit at your disposal. (If you choose well, you'll wonder how you ever lived with out one).

All in all the job shouldn't take longer than an hour of your time, unless you have a particularly difficult vehicle such as a BMW X5 (Due to the location of the unit) or most Porsche's (Because of the firewall).

Bluetooth Car Kits are known to improve driver safety when using the mobile phone, if you don't have one installed in your vehicle. Don't use your phone.

Using Bluetooth Technology in Your Car Versus Using Cell Phone Speakers

Technological advances have made it possible to communicate as you are driving. Telephone speakers have been used for many years in cars because it is dangerous to use a hand-held cell phone while driving and it is actually illegal to do so in some states. Bluetooth technology is relatively new, but it has several advantages. When deciding how you are going to communicate with the outside world from your car, the only way to pick the best option is to weigh the pros of using Bluetooth technology against the pros of using telephone speakers and to look at the option that has demerits you can live with or demerits that have remedies. Bluetooth is a wireless technology that connects the phone to an earpiece. One advantage of this technology is that passengers will not hear what the caller is saying - this is not the case with a telephone speaker.

The fact that Bluetooth technology uses earphones is advantageous in that there is more clarity compared to cell telephone speakers. With mobile telephone speakers, there is usually interference in communication due to noise by passengers or due to traffic. Bluetooth technology also allows you to enjoy extra features. An example of these features is music streaming. The music can be streamed right to your earphones. Such features remove the inconvenience and clutter of wires. Some cars come with Bluetooth car kit for these functions. Bluetooth mobile phone used with these car kits must support HFP or Hands-Free Profile and HSP or Handset Profile.

To turn on the cell telephone speaker, you need to go to the phone's settings. This might be dangerous if you are driving. However, all you need with a Bluetooth earpiece is to press on a button when a call comes in and to press it when the call is over. All in all, Bluetooth technology is very common today and many phones are Bluetooth enabled. The earphones go for as little as 15 to 20 dollars. On the other hand, many people find earphones annoying and pretentious. For these people, having cell telephone speakers in the car is the best option. Most cell phones have inbuilt speakers. This means you do not need to make an extra investment. With Bluetooth technology, you need to by an earphone which will set you back to .

Using Bluetooth Technology in Your Car Versus Using Cell Phone Speakers

Bluetooth technology may fail because it is wireless and the transmitter or the receiver may become faulty. However, the reliability of cell telephone speakers is guaranteed because the only time they will not work is when your phone is not working. An advantage common to both Bluetooth technology and cell telephone speakers is that not much is attached on the interior. This reduces the risk of vandalism by people after your gadgets. Another advantage that is common to both Bluetooth technology and communicating through cell telephone speakers is that both are low power wireless technologies. This means you do not need an external source of power - the power of the phone output is enough.

The Difference Between Universal and Integrated Bluetooth Handsfree Kits - Which Are Better?

There are a lot of different types of bluetooth handsfree kits available on the market, many different brands, styles and designs offering different functions. However each kit performs what is essentially the same task, offering Handsfree call functionality while driving. Although there are many types of kit they all fall into two categories, Universal Sun Visor Kits or Fully Integrated Kits.

Universal Sun Visor Kits also referred to as Plug and Play kits are a portable speaker and microphone combination packaged into one working unit. They hold a small but strong storage battery that allow for long standby life so you can attach the kit to your sun visor and leave it dormant until you need it. Many are provided with a car charger and more often than not a USB charger for connection to your computer for re-charging, firmware updates and bluetooth connectivity while at work (or play). Most recent universal bluetooth kits provide excellent sound reproduction due to a break through in DSP (digital sound processing) & Echo reduction software & Hardware. The microphone on universal bluetooth kits are more often than not built into the units, and pick up far less background noise than older models. Due to this your contact on the other end gets a loud and strong connection via your phone. There are many different styles, designs, shapes and sizes of sun visor kits ranging from large function rich kits like the Bury CV9040 to the Small and pretty kits like the Pama Alpha or the Parrot Minikit Slim.

As you would expect with all universal kits the features and functions vary tremendously. State of the art kits usually come from Bury and Parrot and the rest tend to follow behind. A lot of universal kits now have features like TTS (Text to speech) and voice to text technology that allows the dictation of text messages and more advanced kits can be controlled voice commands. The Bury CV9060 is a particular market leader in this field with menu system that can be fully navigated by speech, apart from several functions, such as to hang up while in conversation (obviously you don't want the conversation to end abruptly depending on whats said either end!)

The Difference Between Universal and Integrated Bluetooth Handsfree Kits - Which Are Better?

The Majority of Universal kits purchased are to be used socially either for a group of people (family or friends) to share when out and about, or for individuals  or couples who have more than one vehicle and want to change frequently. These device can be removed in seconds and charged while driving making them a great hansdfree solution that are cheap, reliable and totally portable.

Integrated Bluetooth Car Kits are fully hardwired into the vehicles speaker system, just about all Integrated kits are provided as standard with ISO connections, if your vehicle has an ISO wiring loom the bluetooth kits will fit straight into it making installation very easy. If not there are various wiring adaptors available that will convert your vehicle wiring to ISO, these are know as SOT leads and are available for just about every vehicle. As the Kit is hardwired into the vehicle, several problems are instantly eliminated. The kits retain charge via the power cable in the ISO harness so you never have to charge the bluetooth kit, there is also a Auto-Mute cable with the ISO that will kill any audio coming from the radio, cd, iPod etc automatically. So all you hear is the conversation.

Most integrated kits are provided with separate control units to answer, hang up or dial contacts. These can usually be connected anywhere in the vehicle that is both comfortable and convenient for the driver. New bluetooth kits such as the Parrot MKI range and the Bury CC9060 are provided the additional functions that improve compatibility & usability. For instance the MKI range are compatible with iPods so you have music integration via parrot kit. The iPods are fully controllable via the parrot control unit so functions like track browsing, song forwarding, Volume increase etc can all be performed at the touch of a button. The Bury CC9060 is provided with an excellent touch screen monitor and equipped with the very latest voice recognition software. This allows you to use your phone via the bury unit via voice commands. You don't even have to train the kit, just install and start.

The Integrated kits provide a much better all round performance. The quality of audio reproduction is far greater then the Universal kits. Integrated Kits also have many additional features over the universal kits. Making & answering calls is usually easier too so if your looking for a good all round performance Integrated is the way forward. However the universal kits are portable and can be easily transferred from vehicle to vehicle. The sound reproduction is still good however you may have to fight with the radio for volume control.

In summary, if you want an all singing & dancing bluetooth car kit you should go down the integrated route, however if you want some thing more simple and portable the universal kit is the one for you. However both are excellent options and are much better than manually talking on your mobile phone while driving.

How To Select Bluetooth Computer Speakers

Bluetooth wireless technology is becoming increasingly popular as it affords the convenience of not having wires to connect your computer to devices such as speakers, printers, keyboards, and mice. Bluetooth headsets for cell phones are also commonly used by a lot of people who like to talk without holding their phones.

When it comes to selecting Bluetooth computer speakers, there are a few pointers to keep in mind. The first thing you want to check when you are in the market for a set of bluetooth computer speakers is the sound quality. There is no sense in sacrificing the audio quality just for the wireless feature. Go to your favorite mall or electronics store and take a look at what they offer. Test the speakers while playing different genres of music to see how they perform in different frequency ranges.

If your budget is tight, price can also be a limiting factor. You are going to pay a premium for design. For instance, Hammacher Schlemmer has a set of speakers with a curvy, futuristic design rather than the traditional rectangular shape. These speakers usually connect wirelessly to your computer through the USB port. So you'll also want to check to see if you have a free USB port available for this purpose. If not, you'll have to consider getting an expansion USB port.

How To Select Bluetooth Computer Speakers

Some speakers may serve multiple purposes besides being the sound system for your computer. You can also use your bluetooth cell phone and connect it to the same set of speakers. Be sure to check the compatibility of your computer to make sure that they will work with the speakers. Ask about the return policy at the store where you purchase the speakers in case you need to exchange it for a different model.

The convenience of Bluetooth computer speakers is a major plus but in the final analysis you have to consider your budget. If you can afford to wait, the prices of electronic gadgets normally go down with time even as the technology improves.

Bluetooth Printer

In the last decade, the Bluetooth technology has grown tremendously. This growth has led the companies to develop more and more Bluetooth enabled devices. These Bluetooth devices started with the Bluetooth mobiles, the Bluetooth enabled computers, followed by various accessories like speakers, headsets, mouse, keyboard and then the printer.

The Bluetooth printer is developed mainly to make the life easier. There is no geographical restriction for you with these printers. You can place your printer in the next room or next floor or even in the next building according to your wish. Only thing you need to do is that you should buy the Bluetooth printer with such a power range to suit you.

If you already own an old printer, you need not buy a new Bluetooth enabled printer. You can simply add a Bluetooth adapter to make your printer Bluetooth enabled. With these printers, you can share a single printer for the whole office premises without using wires. So it saves the money that are usually spent on the extra printers or complicated LAN connection.

Bluetooth Printer

Bluetooth printer adapters are best suited for the small businesses as they do not use more computers. These printers also possess some limitations with the coverage area. Usually the coverage area ranges between 30 feet to 300 feet depending on the type of hardware used. So you need to place the printer with this distance to ensure proper functioning of your printer.

Another advantage of the Bluetooth enabled printer is that you can use even your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone to print the documents and images without connecting to a computer. On the other side, if multiple users access the printer at the same instant, the printer gets hampered and gets slow. So you need to allocate time for the users to access the printer independently or should follow some other system to ensure proper functioning.

Also, if the printer is set in the discoverable mode, there is a possibility of hackers to hack the system and also to get access to your confidential data. So it is your own risk to use the Bluetooth printer.

Cell Phone Law and the Hands-Free Bluetooth Solutions

Did you know that California will the 5th state (if you include District of Columbia) to pass the cell phone law? This will present a problem for most of us in California since we depend on it so much. The law was passed Fall of 2006 and will go into effect July 1, 2008. What exactly does the legislation entail? It prohibits the use of any hand-held mobile phones while driving. Drivers who are caught chatting away on their cellular phones will be fined for the first offense and will receive fines for any ensuing offense.

So what's the solution? Well, the law does give room for mobile phone chatters to use hands free kits when talking on the phone. However, older cell phones tend to lack Bluetooth technology and thus rely primarily on wired handsfree kits that come standard with the purchase of most phones.

Bluetooth Earpiece

Cell Phone Law and the Hands-Free Bluetooth Solutions

This is probably the cheapest solution for most people. The earpiece is a simple headset that is usually placed over one ear, consisting of both the microphone and the earphone. It allows you to use it in and out of the vehicle, so you are free to go wherever you please while speaking wirelessly on the phone. Depending on its features and quality, you could find Bluetooth headsets for as cheap as and as expensive as 0. The great thing about is its role as a standalone accessory. All you have to do is connect it (AKA "pair) with your Bluetooth capable mobile phone.

This hands-free device has a few disadvantages. These units contain small power cells that would need to be charged after about 6 to 8 hours of talk time. Additionally, some users complain that earpieces tend to be more uncomfortable over a long period of time. Some earpieces even give off a sort of echoing effect and could be hyper-sensitive to noise in certain road conditions. Of course, this complains may vary per brand and model-so be sure to try each one of them out, especially because there are a ton of companies now that make these.

Plug-N-Play Hands-Free Bluetooth Car Kit

These kits simply attaches to either the top of your dashboard, an air conditioning vent, or sometimes even your windshield. The plug'n'play Bluetooth kit is a device the size of your palm and usually gets power from your cigarette lighter. The palm-size kit contains both the microphone and a tiny loudspeaker. With this you don't have to attach anything to your ear and is often loud enough to hear, even through traffic noise.

The price range on these stay pretty consistent since there are not as many variations of this type of Bluetooth interface. As of early 2008, they cost anywhere from -5. The disadvantage of plug and play kits, however, is its volume. Though they may be loud, there is no sense of privacy if you have other passengers in the vehicle. Another thing to keep in mind is the quality of the speakerphone built in the mounted kit. Some speakerphones tend to blare rather than sounding clear. This occurs when you overload a small speakerphone with a ton of volume, and this is quite common with this type of devices.

Some companies who sell plug-n-play Bluetooth car kits include Parrot, Clarion, and Raytel.

In-Dash Receiver with Bluetooth

Because of advancements in Bluetooth technology, car audio companies began integrating Bluetooth technology in standard head units. This allows Bluetooth cell phones to be paired with the Bluetooth ready headunit. A phone call would mute whatever music or radio is playing and would channel the call through your vehicle's sound system, resulting in the clearest sound from your phone. Depending on the kit, the microphone could be built in the headunit or wired (with hidden install of course) to the sunvisor. But just like the plug-n-play units, it offers no privacy since it could be heard by anyone in the vehicle.

This is probably the best solution for you if you are looking for a clean install without messy wires and if you feel uncomfortable putting something on your ear. It would also offer the best solution for you if you are looking for the best sound quality for a Bluetooth unit. If you want a built-in Bluetooth headunit, it will cost 0 or more. If you have an aftermarket stereo that is Bluetooth ready, you may just get the Bluetooth kit for that receiver. It is pricey though, costing you about 0 for just the Bluetooth interface.

The Convenience of Bluetooth Enabled Phones

Whether you have been actively looking for a new cell phone, or you are simply being bombarded with the latest advertisements for the newest special offer from various cell phone carriers, you have probably heard mention of Bluetooth. Bluetooth enabled phones are becoming more popular all the time and are now some of the most sought after types of mobile phones on the market.

A Bluetooth enabled phone provides a new way to communicate with other devices that incorporate the its technology and applications. This mobile wireless technology allows for devices to be self-activating, which means that such devices are able to connect and communicate with minimal interaction from the operator. In other words, the wireless network between its enabled devices sets itself up automatically and activates, and then the user simply needs to instruct the device on what to transmit.

It is this automation of creating a Bluetooth wireless network that has helped to make Bluetooth enabled phones such a boon for people looking to simplify their daily lives and the communication needs they have. Its wireless technology networking system was initiated with the express intent of finding a way to solve the problems and issues of wired communications and of infrared systems.

The Convenience of Bluetooth Enabled Phones

As a result, a wide variety of different kinds of electronic equipment can easily communicate with other devices that operate under this latest technology. For instance, its phones can communicate with a Bluetooth wireless headset, allowing the user to make and receive phone calls hands free and without having an annoying wire dangling from the phone to the headset. Most of its wireless headsets allow you to end calls and answer calls without touching the phone, and some models even have the technology that allows you to make calls as well, depending on your phone's features.

A Bluetooth enabled phone can also connect with a number of other types of its devices, that at first might not seem at all related to the use of a cell phone. Your Bluetooth phone can wirelessly synchronize with your PDA, so that your phone book or address book is updated at all times on both devices. If you have a cell phone that receives email, you can also connect to its wireless printer so that you can print out your email or any other document that might be on your phone.

Many people also have an MP3 player integrated into their Bluetooth functioning phones. In this instance, they could listen to their music with its wireless headphones or over its wireless speakers. As more and more companies integrate the technology into their devices, such phones will be able to interact seamlessly with them.

It did not take long for people using its phones to recognize the power and the ease with which they could carry out tasks, which were often frustrating without this wireless technology. The great thing about its devices is that the connectivity between the electronics is so simple to accomplish, making the Bluetooth wireless features easy to use even for people who do not consider themselves to be high-tech.

Bluetooth enabled phones are expected to continue to gain in popularity and in market share. Those who are busy professionals have come to appreciate the convenience that the technology offers.

They also enjoy the freedom from cables and wires and the tangles created by them. This wireless technology is undoubtedly here to stay and will grow more common as it is integrated into more and more commercial applications.
